A Growing Library of Resources

Last year, The Parmenter Foundation developed and launched a five-part video series, “Unconditional Love, Unique Loss,” to support the ever-expanding number of families that are grieving the deaths of their beloved pets. The videos filled a glaring gap for content in this area of grief support and garnered an overwhelmingly positive response. We received feedback from social workers at two of the state’s largest pet hospitals exclaiming that the videos have proven extremely valuable for their clients, yet they said the series was missing a critical piece: how to tackle the challenges of a pet’s end-of-life. We heard them and delivered! Working with the three social workers who provided this valuable advice, we produced two new videos on navigating pets’ difficult diagnoses and the challenges of the final days of their lives.
We have also expanded our resources in other areas of grief support. With the help of a local mom who lost her daughter to Tay-Sachs disease, we published a tip sheet on supporting parents who have lost children. This will be supplemented by a video in progress regarding what to say and what not to say to someone who is grieving. In addition, we are thrilled to kick off our portal focused on grief in the workplace with two videos spearheaded by local grief expert, Ken Barringer. Ken explains how to create a compassionate, grief responsive work environment, including how to best communicate with and support employees who are grieving, along with the colleagues of those employees.
