Ways To Help

Volunteer Opportunities

“The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.” – DeAnn Hollis

There is much to do at the Parmenter Foundation. Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to the community, to make friends, enrich your life and share your skills and talents in productive and helpful ways.

We need help in many of our community services and events, including:

Camp Erin – Become a Camp Erin “buddy” for our three-day camp in August.  For more information visit the Camp Erin website.

Lights of Remembrance – Purchase a symbolic light “in honor of” or “in memory of” a loved one and have your loved one listed in our Lights of Remembrance Memory Keepsake Book. The lights will remain lit throughout the winter months – please visit any time.

Hosmer House, Sudbury – Help us decorate a themed-room at the historic Hosmer House for the holidays.

Holiday Concert – The Holiday Concert is a wonderful seasonal event that benefits the Hospice. The program, the luncheon and the company are truly something to look forward to as the days shorten. Entertainment by local, talented high school musicians adds to this festive event.

Parmenter Food Pantry in Wayland – Shop, organize or deliver groceries to Wayland residents in need.

Hospice Volunteers – Direct Service Hospice Volunteers work with patients and their loved ones to offer comfort and support during the time of a terminal illness and following the death in bereavement. Care is provided in patient homes in the community and in the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence. Comprehensive training and supervision is provided for Hospice Volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer, please contact Rebecca Wendler by e-mail or by phone at 508-907-9660.

Friends of the Garden – Because the Dora Efthim Healing Garden is open to the public throughout the year, Friends of the Garden are dedicated to nurturing and supporting the Garden in a variety of ways. Friends provide summer and fall maintenance and help to extend invitations to community groups to use the Garden for gatherings. Friends also assist with the annual Lights of Remembrance ceremony held in the Garden by helping with set-up, providing baked goods, and serving as greeters.
